OBSESSION is in theaters nationwide today
LOS ANGELES, CA – May 15th 2026 – Back Lot Music announces the release of Focus Features' Obsession Original Motion Picture Soundtrack with music by composer Rock Burwell. Obsession follows a hopeless romantic that finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price. The film hits theaters nationwide today in North America, and the album is available everywhere digital music is sold and streamed. Additionally, the album is now available to preorder on vinyl by Waxwork Records.
“A big focus while composing Obsession was the idea of exploring the uncanny valley, finding the space where emotions get warped into something disorienting, where you’re no longer sure what’s real" Burwell notes. "Curry and I spent a lot of time together crafting the balance between feelings like warmth and dread, nostalgia and estrangement, even the expansiveness of how love feels versus something like claustrophobia. Part of what made it all so exciting was the willingness to take risks, using hard cuts and loudness in ways that feel almost confrontational. Discomfort was always the goal.”
ABOUT ROCK BURWELL
Zach ‘Rock’ Burwell is a Los Angeles-based composer and music producer originally from New Hampshire. He began his professional career at nineteen, building a reputation as a producer, recording engineer, and multi-instrumentalist working across hip-hop, alternative, and experimental music. In 2015, he earned his first major placement as a producer on a debut album that has since gone platinum and has spent the years since expanding his creative scope from artist production into composition and original music.
Obsession marks his debut as a feature film composer. The score: atmospheric, synth-driven, and disorienting, was developed in close collaboration with director Curry Barker, and grew out of a creative partnership that began when the two met through a mutual music project in Los Angeles.
Burwell also fronts Museum Complex, his alternative rock project, and releases music under his own name.
